Replacing a Toilet
- Turn off the Water Supply: The first step in replacing a toilet is to turn off the water supply. This can be done by turning the water shutoff valve clockwise until it won’t turn anymore.
- Disconnect the Water Supply Line: Once the water is off, you can disconnect the water supply line by loosening the nut that holds the line in place.
- Remove the Toilet from the Floor: Lift the toilet from the floor and set it aside. Make sure to wear gloves for this part.
- Insert the New Toilet: Place the new toilet on the floor. If there are any bolts that need to be installed, do so now and make sure to tighten them.
- Connect the Water Supply Line: Connect the new water supply line to the toilet and use the wrench to tighten the nut.
- Turn on the Water Supply: Turn the water supply valve counterclockwise to turn on the water.Test the Toilet: To make sure that the toilet is installed correctly, flush to see if the water flows properly.

- Fix the Problem: Use the supplies you have gathered to fix the problem. If it’s a clog, try using a plunger. If it’s a running water, try using a plumbing snake.
- Reconnect the Water Supply: Once the problem is fixed, reconnect the water supply line and turn on the water.
- Test the Toilet: Flush the toilet to make sure it’s working properly and that the problem has been fixed.
